Reuse : the Metropole launches a “donation point” at four waste collection centres

From Saturday 11 September, the Metropole is launching a new system for reducing waste in the collection centres of Vif, Saint-Martin-d’Hères, Saint-Égrève and Échirolles. This system, called “donation points”, or donnerie in French, makes it possible to recover items in good condition or easily repairable in order to give them a second life.

Imagine if when you went to the tip, you could give away the old bike taking up space in your garage or those toys you no longer need, instead of throwing them away ? This is the principle of the donation points, a new service set up by the Grenoble Metropole.

Each Saturday, the donation point – in the form of a tent in the Metropole colours - is set up in one of the four waste collection points concerned on a rotating basis, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. (all year round), according to the following timetable :
• The 1st Saturday of the month in Vif
• The 2nd Saturday in Saint-Martin-d'Hères (starting this Saturday 11 September)
• The 3rd Saturday in St Egrève
• The 4th Saturday in Echirolles

Users can deposit any reusable objects (i.e. in good condition or easily repairable) they wish to get rid of: furniture, toys, bicycles, books, crockery, decoration, appliances, baby and childcare items, etc.

Not sure about the condition of the item ? Valuers are present on site to guide and inform users. One collected, the items are sorted, checked and repaired if necessary, then resold in solidarity shops.

The collection and recycling of the items is entrusted to Fabricanova, a local collective* active in the social and solidarity economy.

Donation points can also be set up in certain Flexi waste collection centres, like this Saturday 11 September in Quaix-en-Chartreuse (Place du Marché) and at events (markets, jumble sales, etc.).

So, before throwing it away, consider giving it away !

*The Fabricanova collective includes Envie Rhône-Alpes, Emmaüs Grenoble, Qualirec, Ulisse Grenoble Solidarité, Cycles&Go, Régie de quartier Villeneuve Village Olympique, Régie de quartier Pro'Pulse, the Aplomb/Eco'mat38 asssociation, Marianne workshops and Grenoble Alpes Metropole.

Coming soon, a 8,000 m2 platform dedicated to the circular economy, reuse and waste reduction

This platform will open in 2022 at the former Schneider Electric site on Avenue des Jeux Olympiques in Grenoble. It will, in particular, include a building for the repair, reuse and transformation of objects, as well as a business incubator for developing new solutions in connection with the circular waste economy and an area dedicated to combating food wastage and developing the use of returnable containers.
